ENGINEERING EXPERIENCE
Dr. Carr's formal training and research is in the areas of mechanics, electronics and software. In 1974,
he founded IPT Corporation and for over 30 years performed product design services for more than
six hundred, high-tech firms across the country. Many of these projects involved the creation of electronic
hardware and software of the sort used in elevators and escalators designs over the last 50
years. From 1998 to 2002, Carr and his team worked on a new elevator door safety system. A byproduct
of this work has been his study of various vertical transportation systems in use today.

ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION & LITIGATION SUPPORT
Over the last 9 years, Carr has investigated vertical transportation and related pedestrian door accidents
in 37 states including Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia. He is conversant with the regulatory
codes and specifications that apply in these jurisdictions.

   The distribution of investigations are:
200 elevators, 35 escalators and moving walks, 30 automatic pedestrian doors, and 5 construction
personnel hoists and belt man lifts.

CONSULTING
In 2004 Carr became one of approximately 100 experts across the US to be admitted to the International
Association of Elevator Consultants (IAEC formerly NAVTP). Carr provides elevator consulting
and inspection services for building owners and others. Past projects include:
       • Inspect and sign-off on 33 elevators for the US Government at Moffett Field (CA),
       • Inspect for a buyer three elevators in an office complex in Sunnyvale (CA),
       • Calculate engineering parameters for a new home elevator design (FL), and
       • Inspect an elevator in an office building prior to sale (CA).

FIELD EXPERIENCE
       • Assist in the modernization of a private residence elevator (NV),
       • Ride on top of cars and disassemble escalators all over the US,
       • Troubleshoot an inoperable hydraulic elevator as part of an inspection (CA), and
       • Observe over 200 elevators during investigations.

RELATED ENGINEERING EXPERTISE
From 1985 to 2005, Carr supported various plaintiffs and defendants in intellectual property and product
failure litigation as a consultant and/or expert witness based on 40 years of engineering design
work. Specific technologies included: Computer Software, Electronics, Forensic Engineering and Reverse
Engineering techniques. Recreational boating accident investigation is his other expert specialty.

PROBONO PUBLIC SERVICE
Approximately 25 people from across the country contact Carr each year for initial advice on where to
turn concerning their elevator or escalator accident. There is never a charge.
After conclusion of litigation surrounding an accident, Carr frequently contacts the equipment owner to
offer free consulting advice concerning underlying dangers and deficiencies in their equipment.
